Our hands-on interpreting assessment tools give clients confidence in the interpreting services their associates provide and ensure that bilingual associates have the skills and protocols necessary to serve as qualified interpreters.

Customized Tools for Interpreting Assessment

We customize the assessment tools for each client, with up-front consultation to gain a better understanding of needs, expectations, and nuances. We then tailor verbal, written, and site assessments to reflect the clients’ language, subject matter, and setting, as well as terms and forms specific to each client.

In-Person Interpreting Assessment Execution

Our team completes each assessment in person at your facility to ensure the potential interpreter fully demonstrates the skills needed to meet quality and compliance requirements for interpreting services. Following the interpreting assessment, we offer complete results and recommendations.

Interpreting Services Training

The step before or after Assessments is almost always training. We are a licensed trainer of The Community Interpreter® (TCI), a nationally recognized interpreting training program for medical, educational, and social services interpreters. We also offer OpenLingo, an e-learning program that uses distance learning technology to offer a selection of single-topic training modules.

The Community Interpreter® 

We are proud to be a licensed trainer of The Community Interpreter®, a nationally recognized interpreting training program for medical, educational, and social services interpreters. Developed by Cross-Cultural Communications, TCI is the only national training program in the U.S. for community interpreters. TCI is a program of the highest caliber that promotes national ethics and standards of practice in the field and helps prepare interpreters to take the national medical interpreter certifications. The course covers:

  • Ethics and professional conduct
  • Interpreter protocols (from pre-session to post-session, positioning and turn-taking)
  • Modes of interpreting (consecutive, sight translation, and a brief intro to simultaneous)
  • Strategies for intervention
  • Cultural mediation
  • Other vital skills and topics

During our 40-hour program, interpreters will engage in role playing, activities, group exercises, and hands-on experiences. Video segments offer demonstrations, and a training manual and workbook are included. We will test all participants for language proficiency to receive a certificate. TCI provides linguists with the training and materials on which they can build a solid foundation for certification:
